A pilonidal sinus is basically a depression in the skin or
small pit that occurs at the bottom of the tailbone and can become infected and
filled with pus. Once infected, the technical term is pilonidal abscess. It
looks like a boil at the bottom of the tailbone, just above the crack of the
buttocks.

draining, removal of pus and hair, and sewing of the edges of the fibrous tract
to the wound edges. This creates an open wound that slowly covers with the skin
and it can prevents re-formation of the sinus.
